Innocence and Freedom

Perhaps what I loved most about being with my sons when they were small was the daily opportunity to witness their blissful relationship with the universe, that unconscious, wide-open connection with the sublime that is the special realm of childhood.

Young children have precious little awareness of themselves in relation to the world at large; they are just in it. And if we're lucky, and paying attention, we parents get to re-experience some of that innocence and freedom ourselves, seeing the world anew through their eyes.
