Gain and Loss

I find myself asking over and over again, what is the world coming to? Sometimes it feels like the world is “going to hell in a handbasket." That was one of my grandfather's favorite sayings along with "don’t throw the baby out with the bath water." My grandaddy liked to reference the bible to bring levity to grave matters. Wars, disease, fires, and famines— all that is happening in the world today feels biblical... It all makes my heart bleed out as I am sure it does yours...
Everyday some things get better, some things get worse. Today alone was full of gain and loss. A baby bird hit the big bay window and died. The iris by the river bloomed its wild lavender whorl. If you live long enough, your eyesight is going to get worse, the enamel will scrape off your teeth, and your bladder will lose its grip.
Sometimes I think the best I can do is have my tahini on toast in the morning, rummage through the hat box for my ball cap and step out each day, the love of God in me, headed for the great unknown.
